Previous Feedback
Comments: Unlike the Altra Torin Plush 4.5, this shoe was a bit awkward to step into. I was looking forward to this shoe as a faster, more streamlined approach to Altra's wide toe box, but unfortunately, the insole felt steeped and not very comfortable. Shoe was true to size and I do love the brand.

Comments: I like a running shoe that is a little more firm and not too squishy. My last pair were the Solstice. I was not 100% sure when I first tried the Vieras on, and usually when that happens I just give them a try. I have not really gone wrong with any pair of Altras, and I have about 6 now. Also, they have that tech that is supposed to form to your foot or something like that... anyway, a few short runs in and I am in like with them. More foot protection than the Solstice, which is great. A little chunky around the heel, but I can live with it. I got used to the airy feel of the Solstice mesh so I just go with a lighter pair of socks. Overall, I am happy with the purchase.

Comments: This is an update from my Feb. 10th review. I ordered a half size larger than I usually wear and the length was then good, but I noticed what another reviewer stated. There is something weird about the fit of this shoe. I also felt arch pain just standing up in the shoe and walking around the house. I continue to be disappointed by the fact that Altra is giving less room for natural toe splay. I look forward to the next version of Rivera if some improvements are made.

Comments: I want to love these but I don't. I'm still looking for a replacement for the Intuition that Altra discontinued. The Riveras do not have a wide toebox, which is one of the hallmarks of Altra. Despite this issues, the shoes might be comfortable if they didn't have a weird midsole shape. What is the purpose of the rise on the lateral midsole of the shoe? It positions the head of the fifth metatarsal on a very uncomfortable slope. I had discomfort on the outside/underside of my foot that quickly turned to pain after just walking around the house in these shoes. Look at the photo of the shoe's outside view to see what I mean. That obvious rise in the midsole foam is a no-go.

Comments: Ordered a pair from Altra and found that it ran about a half size short for me, compared to Torin, Escalante and Provision. The tongue is really thick and the heel, though it felt loose, was also thicker than the other 3 models I just named. I also found the toe box to have much lower volume or height, but am going to try a size larger to see if that keeps my toes from rubbing the top of the shoe. I'd love to have an Altra shoe with more EGO softness and rebound.
