  • Supportive fit
  • Mesh design elements
  • Durable material

Dislikes:

  • Fabric is not as flexible and stretchy
  • Hook/eye closure

Our testers found the Brooks Drive Convertible Run Bra to be a supportive and durable option that offers versatility and customisation in its design. The reviewers liked that it can convert from a scoopback to a racerback style with the simple ease of hooking the clasps on the back of the bra. Despite a lack of built-in or removeable cups, the Convertible Bra provides compression-led support and a modest, secure fit. The reviewers also appreciated the durable fabric; however, the material was not as flexible as they would have liked, and it could feel a bit confining and restrictive. Overall, our testers recommend the Convertible Run Bra for those who prefer a minimalist design without any padding that still offers the performance and support necessary during high-impact runs.

Features & Style

Score: 7.5/10

Caroline: "Although the Drive Convertible does not have built-in or removeable cups, it does provide subtle modesty with its minimal design and shock-absorbing technology. The bra's most noteworthy feature (which is its namesake) is its versatility in alternating between two styles: scoopback and racerback. I like how simple it is to clasp the two straps together in back to convert it to a racerback design. I would have preferred some small perforations for additional airflow and ventilation. The mesh panelling on the centre and sides of the bra offers some breathability, but I am partial to the bra for its overall breathability, seamless design, and feminine silhouette."

Kaitlin: "The clip to change it into a racerback is the Drive Convertible's only unique feature; otherwise, it's a pretty basic but reliable high-impact bra."

Fit & Support

Score: 7.5/10

Caroline: "The Drive Convertible Bra, with its adjustable shoulder straps and hook/eye closure on the back, offers a personalised fit. The bra hugged my chest, ensuring no uncomfortable bounce and providing a snug, compressive fit. The brushed bottom band offered support and held everything in place. I would have preferred a softer elastic bottom for a seamless design, flexibility, and less of a locked-in feel. In general, I am not a big fan of hook/eye closures or adjustable straps in my running sports bras; I prefer pullover styles for easier wear and flexibility. However, the ladies with larger cup sizes may prefer the hook/eye closure for the additional locked-in support it provides."

Kaitlin: "This is a high-impact bra with soft material and a thick band that adds comfort. I would have preferred moulded fabric for a smoother and more flattering fit. The material does feel a bit restrictive, adding pressure to the straps and compressing the chest a little. I would have liked more flexibility in the fabric, especially in the chest area for additional comfort. I do feel really locked in and secure, though, which allows me to feel more confident in a wider variety of tops."

Quality & Value

Score: 8/10

Caroline: "The Drive Convertible is essentially two bras for the price of one. Thanks to its customisation, you can alternate from scoopback to racerback style depending on personal preferences. For those who enjoy having a variety of options and being able to adjust the fit and style of your running bra, the Drive Convertible gets the job done. After several washes and plenty of usage, the bra holds up like new. I was concerned about the mesh material in the wash, but it didn't tear or wear down at all."

Kaitlin: "I think with its support and versatility, the Drive Convertable Bra is a great deal. If I'm only able to bring one bra, this would be the one. The fabric holds up well; there is just a little bit of stretch to it, so I do not imagine it will loosen up too much over time. Additionally, the construction is simple but well done."

Overall Score: 8/10

The Brooks Drive Convertible initially appears delicate and minimal in its design, and I wasn't sure if it was really going to offer the support I need for my high-impact runs. I tend to favuor pullover styles because I find it easier and less time-consuming to just throw it on and hit the road. I was wary of the adjustable straps and the hook/eye back closure because it just looked like a regular bra. However, after running in the Brooks Convertible, I soon realised it surprisingly does offer the support and compression needed for my distance runs. I would have loved if it had a softer elastic band for more freedom of movement and breathability. I did like the centre and side mesh material, which offered a touch of femininity in an otherwise muted design. Compared to the competition, the Brooks Drive Convertible Bra offers versatility and a personalised fit, without compromising on support.

Overall Score: 7.5/10

The Drive Convertible Bra is a good high-impact bra with a comfortable wide band and an easy hook/eye closure. I felt strapped into the bra and had a lot of trust in the support. The option to change it into a racerback didn't feel like it changed the support it provides, but it can reduce the pressure on your shoulders and add more versatility to your running wardrobe. The bra's material is pretty restrictive, so getting the right size is very important. As someone wearing a D cup, it felt like I was wearing a well-fitted harness, which didn't feel particularly innovative. There wasn't much encapsulation, but it got the job done. The most unique feature is the clip to change it from a scoopback to a racerback. This model also feels very durable; I think this fabric and structure will ensure a larger number of uses with washing compared to a bra with a molded or seamless fabric.
