What's New

The Hurricane is Saucony's premier stability shoe for daily training, and with the addition of innovative new features, the updated Hurricane now has enhanced capabilities and next-level comfort. The new TPU Guidance frame introduces a modern approach to stability that will support both minimal and excessive pronators. The Engineered Mesh upper is noticeably more structured than the previous model, providing a greater level of comfort and security. The Hurricane 23 is also more durable than its predecessor thanks to the full-length XT-900 Carbon Rubber outsole, which is built to last kilometre after kilometre. Oh, and did we mention that the Hurricane 23 is also lighter than ever before? Just one more thing to get excited about!

The Bottom Line

The Hurricane 23 is a workhorse daily trainer that offers top-of-the-line cushioning and stability for runners who overpronate. With improvements made to the upper, midsole, and outsole, Saucony has elevated the Hurricane 23 to new heights. The PWRRUN+ midsole delivers everything that you need from a daily trainer, including plush, protective cushioning and bouncy energy return that injects life into every run. The innovative stability system provides superb support that will seamlessly guide excessive overpronators without being too much for neutral runners. If the Hurricane came in some flashier colourways and had a slightly more accommodating price point, then it would check all the boxes. Regardless, the Hurricane 23 is a high-performing stability shoe in the daily training category that will compete with the best.

Our In-Depth Look

Shoe Softnessi

The PWRRUN+ foam is beyond soft, delivering deluxe cushioning that will keep your legs fresh throughout your run. The plush foam does not lack any life either and adds an energetic pop to every stride.

Mark: "The cushioning on the Saucony Hurricane 23 is unmatched. The softness of this shoe is what I imagine when someone uses the word 'plush.' It's not overly mushy nor is it just a ton of foam smacked to the bottom."

Ride/Energy Returni

The PWWRUN+ midsole is not only soft but produces a peppy bounce that injects a lot of life into these daily trainers. The lively foam also helps disguise the relatively high weight of the shoe. The combination of support and snap makes the Hurricane 23 more than capable of meeting runners' daily training needs but is especially adept at handling longer, slower-paced runs.

Mark: "Don't let the 'stability' or 'soft' descriptions fool you; this shoe has a surprising bounce to it for an everyday stability shoe. It really helps to mask the true weight of the shoe."

Underfoot Protectioni

With a 39-mm stack in the heel and a 31-mm stack in the forefoot, the PWRRUN+ midsole offers premium protection that will help keep runners feeling fresh, no matter the run. The XT-900 Carbon Rubber along the entirety of the outsole adds further protection, as well as workhorse durability.

Mark: "This shoe has exceptional protection that makes me confident to take it on any distance of run. The PWRRUN+ midsole's energy return helps absorb and reflect some of the impact of repeated footstrikes."

Flexibilityi

The Hurricane 23 scores right in the middle of our flexibility scale, offering a slight flex that adds an extra pop at toe-off. The Guidance Frame uses a medial post that is inherently stiff but balanced out with flex grooves in the midsole and outsole. The Hurricane 23 offers just enough flexibility to deliver a pleasantly smooth ride while still being firm enough to maintain high-quality stability.

Mark: "The stability post on this shoe is not overwhelming or obnoxious, but it will keep the shoe a bit stiff in the midfoot and the heel. The toe-off is accommodating enough to provide some flex and spring without feeling unstable for a higher cushioned shoe."

Upper Supporti

The engineered mesh upper of the Hurricane 23 is impressively cozy, providing a supportive hug from the heel through the midfoot before opening up slightly in the forefoot. The FORMFIT Contoured Footbed creates a personalised feel that gives additional structure and support to the runners who need it. And while the upper lacks in style, it sure does deliver comfort and performance.

Mark: "The wrap on this shoe is accommodating and fits well. It holds my foot in place without any hotspots or any irritating seams."

Individual Thoughts

MarkOverall Score: 9.5/10

The Hurricane 23 provided everything I needed from a daily training stability shoe. This shoe has an impressive combination of soft cushion, supportive stability, and snappy energy return. It may be a bit on the heavy side, but with the lightweight and bouncy foam in the midsole, it does not weigh me down while running. The stability post on this shoe is not distracting and does not take away from the smoothness of the ride. Finally, the upper was luxuriously accommodating, and I found it to be very comfortable.

The Hurricane 23 has carved out a place in my shoe rotation for most of my easier recovery runs. The only minor complaint I had was that my left forefoot got a hotspot that became irritated after about 13 kilometres. I have never experienced this issue before, and I am not sure if this is a defect on the particular shoe I received or something this model struggles with depending on the wearer's gait. This small issue is the only thing that prevents the Hurricane 23 from being a perfect 10/10 for me. If you are a runner looking for a premium stability experience for your daily runs, then the Saucony Hurricane 23 is the shoe for you.
