Comments: WOW SOOOOOO BAD AND EXPENSIVE.WARNING,A BIG WASTE OF MONEY AHEAD!
    From: Anonymous. October 26th 2021

Comments: Honestly one of the stiffest shoes I've ever run in, and no, that's not a complement. There are a lot of good trail shoes on the market, so my recommendation would be to try just about any other brand. They do become a little softer after 50 miles or so, but the lockdown remains abysmal, so it's really not worth running through to get to that point. Durability seems great, and traction is good too, also fit was great in a Men's 10.5. But again, all of those things are only good if the shoe is comfortable and can stay on your foot.

    Comments:
These are narrow for my 2E feet, but the upper is stretchy enough that I was able to accommodate the narrowness by cutting a slit in the upper above my big toe metatarsal joint to give a little more room.  The tread is moderately aggressive and good on trails.  Rock protection by the sole is good.  I usually run in 11.5 in New Balance, but had to go down to 11.0 in these shoes.  These are somewhat heavier at 11.3 oz than my old NB MT101's (8.5 oz) that I usually race on trails in, but provide a somewhat more cushioned ride.  Nevertheless, these are not cushy shoes, and the ride is relatively hard - I wouldn't want to wear them on the roads.  I wore these yesterday in a steep 50k trail race (JMTR), and am satisfied with how they performed, I didn't feel I got any particular advantage from the carbon plate, unlike what I feel in the Nike Next% on the roads.

    Comments:
I was really excited about this shoe, but it may be the worst trail shoe I've worn in forever. First, the good: The sole is touted as "sticky", and that seems to hold true. I put in several runs on a wide variety of technical single-track - from dry and runnable, to muddy, to rooty and rocky. Traction was not an issue. However, it was no better than any of the several most recent iterations of Peregrines I normally wear for technical terrain.

Now, the bad: The fit is terrible. Heel-slippage is noticeable, and difficult to correct due to the inability to use true "heel-lock" lacing. The shoe is wider than expected, making it feel a bit clunky. There's no true tongue (it's a slipper-type upper) so tightening the laces causes rippling in the fabric over the top of your foot. The carbon plate/rod and rocker combination is a joke. Anyone who has experienced the Hoka Carbon X will be seriously disappointed in this pale imitation. I found no noticeable effect, whether doing 8-10 mile loops or hill repeats (up and down) on grades from 8% to 20%.
All in all, this is as disappointing a shoe purchase as I've had in a few years.

    Sizing is a little off!

I'm a 9.5 in Brooks and Nike, I will be sizing down to a 9.0 in these.

Admit to being skeptical, given massive marketing by The North Face and some underwhelming reviews. But decided to try after hearing they might be the second coming of Pearl Izumi. And so they are! The rocker is fun and seems to conserve energy on non-technical trails for longer distances. I managed a 33-miler on rough dirt roads and some tarmac here in Colorado the second time out of the box with no issues - andI am 57 so issues are usually familiar territory.  The lockdown could be better - no way to tie a runner's knot! - but the comfort and stability prevails in the end. Just ordered a second pair.

The rocker feel of this shoe takes some getting used to but after two runs or so it feels relatively normal.  The reason these shoes went back was due to the heel collar.  It is made of a fairly stiff leather material that really digs into your achilles and ankle.  No bueno. The build of the shoe is solid and maybe it'll work better for some folks but I ended up sending them back as it wasn't worth the discomfort.  Fit was true to size - I am a size 10 in almost all shoes except Salomon.

: This is an exceptional shoe! I have utilized it for a tempo and long run thus far - only the beginning as this will most likely be my trail shoe for 2021. It was stiff for the first several miles, but softened up nicely. Definitely a performance racing shoe, but I will also use as a daily trainer due to the comfort level.  Great traction on Michigan frozen gravel roads, and handles nicely on pavement.  Fits true to size for my 10.5. The upper is very comfortable and for my mid-volume foot I believe there is enough room to accommodate for swelling. I will utilize for a scheduled 50K and 50 miler.
