Best Running Shoes for Wide Feet
Updated: August 22, 2023
Whether you are a beginner runner, a seasoned elite, or at work on your feet all day, nothing is more important than finding the right pair of shoes. And if you have wide feet, this quest becomes all the more challenging. Since one size does not truly fit all, running shoe companies have heard the call for the need for wider-width shoes. At Running Warehouse, we understand the importance of finding the best shoes for each of our customers and offer various size options to help keep you comfortably moving. Let's first go over width sizing to help you better understand what to look for.
The sizing guide for widths has a number/letter right after the shoe size length (2A, B, D, 2E, and 4E). The difference between width sizing is approximately 1/4" inch per increment. For men's shoes, the standard width size is D, 2E for wide sizing, and 4E for extra wide. Women's standard shoe sizing is B, with D for wider width and 2E for extra wide. *BONUS for women - there is the option to look for a men's selection since the sizing aligns with the gradual width increase. Just keep in mind that you would go down 1.5 in length size for a women's (Men's size 7.5 = Women's size 9).
In helping you find the right fit, let's break down what you need to look for in a running shoe that will suit your specific needs.
Finding the Right Fit for Comfort & Performance
A properly fitted running shoe will offer cushioning and support while meeting your training needs for the type of running you will do, such as trail running or speed work. Other factors to consider in targeting the best shoe for you are breathability, durability, and whether you wear orthotics or need pronation control or arch support. With running shoes, there are many different types and models to choose from, so we have provided our expertly crafted top picks below, breaking down each factor to consider when looking for the right wide-width shoe for you.
