From its smooth, seamless design to its classic sleek style, Janji's Groundwork 7/8 Tight offers the perfect balance of comfort and support on every run. Made from Janji's Groundwork Knit fabric, the tights provide light compression without compromising breathability and mobility. Thanks to its moisture-wicking and odour-resistant properties, you can give it your all and stay dry and fresh doing so. There is plenty of storage to be had with two (bounce-free) deep side pockets to stash your phone, an internal key waistband pocket, and a rear pocket for nutrition or as a pass-thru for shedding layers when your run heats up. The details in design extend to its reflective logos in the front and back and an infinity drawcord for a secure, customised fit. The leggings also feature a mid-rise waistband and 7/8 length that hits just slightly above the ankle for enhanced movement. Our testers loved the comfortable, flattering fit and the breathable, chafe-free fabric that is durable in its construction. We are also a fan of the clean-cut finish and easy on/off wearable material, so you won't struggle to get into or out of these tights. Whether on the road or the trail, with its ergonomic fit, seamless design, and multiple storage options, the Janji Groundwork 7/8 Tight will be your favourite running tights to slip into year-round.

Features & Style

Score: 9.5/10

Caroline: "The tights feature ample storage with two convenient side pockets (roomy enough for storing your phone), an internal waistband pocket (can hold keys, cash, or I.D.), and two rear envelope pockets for storing gels (handy for fuelling on longer runs and great to have on the trail). I mainly used the side pockets, and it was generous enough to stash my iPhone with its case. I had no issue with any bounce when storing essentials, and the positioning of the pockets on the tights did not restrict my movement. I also liked that it had a mid-rise waistband (not a fan of high-rise waistbands). Overall, the design is beautiful and seamless, and Janji’s reflective logo was a nice added touch to its sleek style."

Risa: "A long-distance and/or trail runner will love these deep side pockets! It’s as good as having a large running belt/band on you. You can easily fit your phone, several gels, your keys, and other essentials."

Fit & Support

Score: 9/10

Caroline: "The tights are very comfortable and moved with my body for an unrestricted run. I wear a small for bottoms, and they fit true to size and offer a secure fit with just the right balance of light compressive support and breathability. There is an internal infinity drawcord, but I never experienced any slippage or the need to adjust the tights on my run. The material has that silky smooth, next-to-skin feel, and the mid-rise waistband offers a flattering fit."

Risa: "The Janji tight is comfortable and moisture-wicking, which is important for running and high-intensity exercise. I would have liked a bit more of a buttery-soft feel. Overall, the fit is flattering, and I liked the seaming around the hips. With some tights, you may struggle to get them on, but the Groundwork isn’t like that!"

Quality & Value

Score: 9.5/10

Caroline: "From the moment you slip them on, you can tell these tights are high-quality construction and a worthy investment, comparable to other running tights at this price point. After multiple washes (on delicate cycle), they show no wear or tear, and I see them lasting for a long time. I prefer to air dry my running gear rather than using the dryer, so it did take a bit of time for the tights to naturally air dry during colder weather. Overall, for its comfortable feel, durable material, distraction-free performance, and the fact that it is free of harmful chemicals, the Groundwork offers superior value and is worth every pretty penny!"

Risa: "It seems like this tight is well-made and will hold up for a long time. After a couple of washes, it still feels like new."

From its high-quality, durable material to its very comfortable fit, the Janji Groundwork Tight ticked all the right boxes for me. I love having secure pockets for my phone, keys, and I.D., and I especially liked the positioning of the side pockets where it didn’t restrict my leg movement when I had essentials stored inside. With ample storage, these tights were great on my longer runs and came in handy on the trail as well. During wintertime, I would need something a bit warmer with a brushed interior, but in sunny or cooler weather, these are my new go-to tights! The four-way stretch fabric is moisture-wicking and breathable, so it performed exceptionally well in keeping me dry and allowed me to run comfortably (and I could easily take them off after my workouts). I also love the seamless design of the tights, which contours to your body for a flattering silhouette, and I experienced no chafing (major plus!). And the icing on top is that the lining is OEKO-TEX certified and the shell is bluesign certified, so there are no harmful chemicals in its construction, which gives me peace of mind about wearing them often.

The Groundwork 7/8 Tight was my first piece of apparel from Janji, and overall, I was impressed! Living in California, where we have mild weather, I usually opt for shorts over leggings for running. However, I could see this becoming a go-to running tight because it is comfortable and breathable. The deep side pockets are my favourite features! For comparison, I would say this tight is as good as or better than a New Balance tight but not as soft and flattering as something from Lululemon. Overall, the Groundwork Tight definitely feels like a high-quality performance tight.
