What's New

There are only minor tweaks in this version of the Saucony Guide. The upper has received a slight makeover to become more streamlined and less bulky. Updated PWRRUN cushioning makes the midsole of the Guide 14 a little softer and more responsive. With adjustments made to the heel fit, runners with a narrower heel may struggle with some slippage as a result. Finally, Saucony threw on some new rounded shoelaces, which are thick, plush, and create a secure hold through the midfoot.

The Bottom Line

The Saucony Guide 14 may not be the lightest or the most exciting stability shoe on the market, but it is a reliable daily trainer with an accessible price tag that can definitely get the job done. While other brands like HOKA and Brooks are offering some innovative approaches to stability, Saucony continues to go for a traditional medial post stability system that does supply overpronators moderate support but could be upgraded to better compete with other shoes on the market. On a more positive note, the Saucony Guide 14 offers runners a soft underfoot feel that provides generous amounts of protection well suited for long training runs. It also has workhorse capabilities, with the versatility to handle nearly any run that comes its way. Overall, the Guide 14 is a tried and true everyday trainer that is well-suited for beginner runners, as well as weekend warriors who want a high-value shoe for daily kilometres or long, easy-paced runs.

Our In-Depth Look

Shoe Softnessi

Matt: "The underfoot feel of the Guide 14 doesn't really get me excited. Nothing about it particularly stands out. It feels kind of soft on easy days, but it isn't the treat my legs need or want. In a world of great new cushioning tech, this shoe falls behind."

Ride/Energy Returni

Matt: "It neither propels you forward nor provides a plush landing. There's nothing really to write home about when it comes to energy return."

Underfoot Protectioni

Matt: "This might be the best part of the shoe. It has a good amount of rubber on the outsole, and the midsole is pretty traditional. So when it comes to protection, the Guide 14 can be relied on for any run, day after day."

Flexibilityi

Matt: "The traditional medial post adds some rigidity to the shoe, but the flex grooves prevent it from being too stiff. Overall, this shoe has a decent balance between the two ends of the spectrum."

Upper Supporti

Matt: "The Guide 14's upper feels great and provides a solid fit. I am always a fan of a higher heel, and the heel tab of this model has been raised a little bit. The tongue and laces work well together and never get in the way."
